show your support for the Annandale Bands by donating today!
long-standing tradition for the school. This year it’s Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 9:30 to 4:30, call time 8:00 AM.
It is a day when the band students solicit donations from the community so that we can continue the programs
that the community enjoys, which include half time performances at the football games and the band’s
attendance at the Halloween Parade, concerts, and competitions.
On Tag Day, parent drivers are matched with band students. Each car is assigned a specific area that is
within the AHS boundary. Usually, each parent has a group of 4 students. The students break into pairs and
go door to door soliciting donations from the residents. Most people are very receptive to the students,
especially because they’re in full band uniform and are doing the very worthwhile task of representing
Annandale High. Who knows they might inspire our neighborhood children to become future Band members.

Tag Day pays for a lot of things that the county does not pay for:
It pays for the marching band uniforms, color guard and indoor guard uniforms, concert band uniforms and
the maintenance of all of these. It pays for the fancy plumes on the marching band hats.
It pays for sheet music and competition fees and marching band arrangements. It might also pay for a new
instrument case.
It pays for the color guard flags and the banners.
It pays for the transportation to band competitions. A successful Tag Day can make the difference between traveling in an unairconditioned yellow school bus and a deluxe bus that has a/c and bathrooms.
It pays for the additional instructors at Band Camp and the special instructors that you have throughout the year.
It helps to pay the unexpected costs that arise from Band Retreats and the Spring Trip.
So, a successful Tag Day ensures that the events planned for the band throughout the school year can really happen. A successful Tag Day helps all band and guard members.
As a famous wise man once said, “We work hard so we can play hard.”
